How to Boost Cellular Signal in an RV
Photo by Hannes Egler on Unsplash
RVs serve as mobile homes, presenting the opportunity to travel to multiple locations daily. There is no guarantee of securing the perfect phone service while in transit, but you can utilize an RV cellular signal booster to improve your chances of securing usable signals.
The Working of an RV Cellular Booster
The equipment collects external signals and sends them to an amplifier inside an RV to broadcast and boost the signals within the vehicle. The system collects weak signals and strengthens them to help your cellular tablet, hotspot, or cell phone work faster. The system has an internal antenna, external antenna, signal amplifier, and low-loss cables.
The cables connect all components with the external antenna on the roof with a cable connecting it to the amplifier. The amplifier is installed inside the vehicle and links to the internal antenna. Ensure you position the internal antenna and amplifier where you need better signals when making a connection, and explore the strength of signals in your area.
Why You Should Install a Cellular Signal Booster in Your RV
It’s always good to install a cellular signal booster in your RV, especially if you have plans to camp off or drive off the grid. Sites like areaguides.net are very useful when you’re on the road to know what are the nearby clinics, restaurants or hotels. Some of the other benefits include:
- It stabilizes cell service: Losing a signal can be frustrating when texting friends or streaming videos. Installing a cellular signal booster on your RV allows you to stay connected by stabilizing the connection. The device usually communicates with nearby cell towers, amplifying the signal and rebroadcasting it to your mobile phone and other devices.
- It boosts your safety: Installing a cellular signal booster on your RV provides you with the required security during your trip. It allows your mobile phone to communicate with nearby cell towers, especially in a remote area where finding service proves difficult. If you drive off a beaten path, the cellular signal booster on your RV allows you to call for help.
- Drive off the map with conviction: A cellular booster on your car boosts your confidence when traveling to remote areas with minimal or no service. You remain connected, whether in the dense wilderness or beautiful mountain terrain. The signal booster facilitates your activities if you require to work while in transit.
Tips for Excellent Cell Phone Reception in Your RV
Traveling in an RV is an excellent way for families to explore new areas while traveling together. An RV provides access to a bathroom, kitchen, and running water, enhancing comfort. Below is a list of tips to improve cell phone reception in an RV.
Go Outside
Cellular phone signals are stronger outdoors due to minimal interference from building materials. The approach is crucial to facilitate smooth connections. Like buildings, an RV may block phone signals from reaching you inside the vehicle. Stepping outside your RV helps improve the strength of signals.
Using an RV-Designated Cellular Phone Signal Booster
An RV-designated cellular phone signal booster is a long-term solution. The device is mounted directly onto your RV or camper to boost any existing cell phone signal. Installing this device on your RV addresses the signal strength loss and the distance from the cell phone tower.
Be Stationary if Possible
When devising ways to improve your cell phone signal in an RV, you should highlight whether you plan to travel most of the time or remain stationary. Knowing this helps you better secure a cellular phone booster that does the job you need it to do. People with a fifth-wheel camper can quickly secure a strong cell phone signal when the RV is stationary, as the phone doesn’t adjust to the constant changes in location. It’s easier to hold and pick up a more robust signal when you are stationary.
Find Higher Ground
You should factor in the strength of a cellular phone signal when traveling to find an ideal location to camp. Find an excellent high point, such as the top of a hill. A high elevation decreases the possibility of the cell phone signal in the area hitting an obstruction, such as trees and buildings.
RVs Cell Phone Signal Challenges
Most RVs experience cellular phone signal challenges for the following reasons.
- RVs building material: Energy-efficient barriers, insulation, metal, and glass prevent cellular signal waves from reaching the inside of your vehicle, which leads to poor or minimal cell service inside the RV.
- Cell tower distance: Cell phones that travel long distances lead to weaker signals and vice versa.
- Outside interferences: Things like mountains, hills, tall buildings, and trees block or reflect cellular signal waves, which prevent your devices from having adequate reception.
A single or combination of the above factors negatively impacts cell service inside your vehicle, making it hard to remain connected while working or on vacation.
Types of RV Boosters
There are two primary RV boosters. They are:
- Broadband boosters: Most broadband available currently are analog repeaters. They come standard as a kit component with an antenna. They can amplify signals from multiple service providers and are more accessible and affordable.
- Specific provider boosters: These are quite new on the market. They amplify signals from single devices or carriers that enable them to boost signals by up to 100 decibels instead of the standard 65 decibels. They are costly, but most buyers claim they’re worth every penny.
There are multiple benefits of installing a cellular signal booster on your RV. It allows you to remain connected, maintains the stability of the cellular connection, and assures you of safety when traveling to a remote location.

Shrimp Boil Foil Packets
Camping can be a relaxing and magical experience. But what isn’t so relaxing? Dishes. Everyone wants to eat but no one wants to do the dishes. This is where foil packets come in handy.
Foil packet meals are quick to prepare, easy to clean up, and can be cooked while camping. If you need a campfire recipe, this is the one for you!
Ingredients and Materials
- Shrimp
- Precooked Sausage
- Zucchini
- Corn on the Cob
- Garlic and Butter
- Old Bay Seasoning
- Aluminum Foil
- Heat Resistant Gloves or Tongs
- Knife
Instructions
- Cut the corn into 2″ long sections and then cut each section in half down the middle.
- Roll out 18″ of aluminum foil.
- Assemble the ingredients in the center of the foil. Place the corn and zucchini on the bottom then the sausage and shrimp. Place all other ingredients on top.
- Seal each of the packets by folding the short ends of foil together. Then roll the long ends of foil towards the center.
- Place the packet over the fire. Placing it on the grate will work best however you can place it directly on the embers as well.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, let it cool, and enjoy!
More Tips on Foil Packets
- If unsure about cooking directly in aluminum, you can line the foil with parchment paper.
- It is better to roll too much aluminum foil than to not have enough!
- Add Cajun seasoning for a slightly different flavor to your meal.

Easy Ways To Keep Your RV Cool
As temperatures rise, it can be difficult to keep your RV cool and at the perfect temperature. Many of us may begin to worry that a new AC unit is needed. But this is not always the case. AC units generally last for many years. Consider these two solutions instead: AC maintenance and removing the burden on the AC. First, let’s look at what maintenance can be done.
Clean the condenser and evaporator coil
Both the condenser and evaporator coil should be cleaned every other year. However, we do not recommend cleaning this by yourself. Even with the AC power turned off, electrical hazards are still present. We recommend hiring a qualified AC technician to perform the cleaning.
Air Intake Filters
Your air intake filters must be cleaned regularly, possibly as often as every month or two depending on environmental conditions. This task can be completed by yourself and is fairly easy. Simply remove the air filters, wash them thoroughly, then replace them after they have dried.
Inspect the Roof Unit Shroud
The shroud helps maintain proper airflow throughout the AC unit. Unfortunately, it’s placement allows it to absorb the sun. The sunlight can cause the shroud to become brittle and crack. Perform an inspection of the shroud every year to look for cracks or deterioration. If any are found then we recommend replacing the shroud.
Keep Your Air Conditioning Enabled
Many RVers leave their RV with the AC off to save money on cooling expenses. However, this is one of the worst things to do for your AC unit. This allows the inside temperature to rise which makes it difficult to cool down when you return. The AC unit must work much harder to cool this down and it can cause deterioration over time. We recommend switching your AC unit to the enabled setting when leaving for the day.
Removing the Burden on the AC
Forcing the AC to work alone can be hard on the unit over time. Here are some easy ways to reduce the burden on your unit.
Parking Position
Where you park has a huge effect on the inside temperature of your RV. To reduce the temperature, we recommend parking in an area with shade. You should also try to face most of your windows away from the afternoon sun. This will naturally cool down your RV and reduce the burden on your AC unit.
Cook Outside
Cooking inside can cause heat from your stove or oven to gather inside. This heat will then be trapped and strain your AC unit. If you cook outside, the heat will stay where it belongs.
Leave the Fridge Alone
Refrigerators expel heat that can gradually warm up your RV. Frequent opening of the fridge decreases its effectiveness and causes it to expel more heat. We recommend opening the fridge only when necessary.
Sun Shade and Night Shade
If your RV has a sun shade and nightshade, use them. Both can be deployed at the same time which will help to naturally lower the temperature of your RV. Even if you only have a sun shade, use it.
We hope you enjoyed our list and will put these tips to good use. Remember to check out our website Kiefercampgrounds.com if you would like to book a site!

How to Choose a Campground
In today’s world, there are so many different campgrounds to choose from. There are different types of campgrounds and all of them offer different features. How do you know which one is best for you?
The first step is to choose what type of campsite you need. If you are camping in an RV then you have the option of grass, gravel, or concrete. Grass sites are very simple and are perfect for a one-night stay. Gravel sites are an upgrade from grass sites. This option has more features than grass sites but not as many as concrete sites. Concrete options typically include a patio area with a picnic table. This option would be perfect if you are planning to cook several meals at your campsite.
Tent campers have a similar choice. Tent sites will always be grass but some offer the option of a patio area. The patio area is the same as the RV patio and will provide a picnic table.
RV Site
The second step is to choose what features you require. If you’re RV camping then you’ll probably want water, sewer, and electric hookups. Lucky for you, all four of our Kiefer Campgrounds offer full-hookup options. To see what a campground offers, check out the campground website.
For tent campers, you may want water and electricity available at your site. These features are not always available at every campground. Two of our Kiefer Campgrounds offer electricity and water at your site. The other two Kiefer Campgrounds offer electricity at the site and communal water nearby.
Tent Site
Your third step is to decide if you would like any additional features. Many guests desire Wi-Fi, a pool, a laundry room, and more. In your campground search, you will find that campgrounds do not offer the same amenities. Our Kiefer Campgrounds all provide Wi-Fi, a laundry room, and a camp store. Check out each campground’s Amenities page to see a full list of what is provided.
Pool Site
Your fourth and final step is to check out the surrounding area. Do you want a busy town or something quieter? Would you like things to do near your campground? This part is all up to you. Each Kiefer Campground will have a map and a Things to Do page on their website. We recommend checking these out before making your decision.
After going through our steps, we hope you have a better idea of what type of campground you would like. If you would like to book a site with Kiefer Campgrounds then go ahead and check out our website today!
How to Include Teenagers in Your Family Camping Trip
Camping is a great family activity that can bring everyone closer together. But what happens when a certain part of your family doesn’t want to be included? We are of course talking about teenagers. Teenagers start to develop their own lives and opinions which can make it difficult to include them in your camping adventure. However, it is not impossible. Listed below are a few easy ways to include your teenager.
- Include them in the process
Teenagers are at the age where they require freedom more than anything. If you take charge of planning a trip without their opinion then it will likely fail. We suggest you pick a few locations and activities then ask what they think. Make your decisions as a team.
- Consider planning shorter trips
Kiefer Campgrounds would love for you to stay with us for months at a time but your teenager may think otherwise. Teenagers have other priorities such as jobs or friends. They do not want to leave these for longer than a few days. We suggest planning trips that are only 3-4 days long.
- Don’t cut off social connections
We know that it can be a bummer if your teenager sits on their phone the whole trip. However, banning technology is not the solution. This will force your teenager to dislike the entire experience. We recommend introducing limited screen time. Set specified times they are allowed on their phone. We also recommend choosing campgrounds with good cell service and Wi-Fi. Kiefer Campgrounds has recently updated the Wi-Fi at two of our campgrounds with updates at the other two coming soon.
- Add new adventures
Relaxing camping trips are great but not exactly what a teenager has in mind. Teenagers enjoy new activities. This could be as simple as trying new restaurants or as thrilling as white water rafting. The activity does not matter, as long as it is new. Check out our Things to Do page on each of our Kiefer Campground’s website for some ideas.
- Encourage them to bring a friend
Yes we know that two teenagers may sound worse than one but hear us out! Teenagers are very social and dislike being cut off from friends. Bringing a friend with them can easily solve this problem. This also gives them someone who will want to participate in the same activities.
Camping might not be your teenager’s favorite activity but hopefully, with these tips, they will start to include themselves more. If you would like to put these tips to the test then go ahead and book your site now! We hope to see you soon!
